খাগড়াছড়িতে 'নতুন কুঁড়ি স্পোর্টস-২০২৬–২০২৭' (সিজন-২) উপজেলা পর্যায়ের প্রতিযোগিতার উদ্বোধন officially commenced on Thursday (5 November). The programme was virtually inaugurated by Prime Minister Tariq Rahman from Khulna Stadium, and broadcast live via projector to Khagrachhari Sadar Upazilla Auditorium. Following the virtual inauguration, Khagrachhari Paurashava and the Sadar Upazilla administration jointly launched the competition at the local level.

The initiative aims to explore and develop sports talent of children and adolescents aged 10 to 14 from remote areas, featuring 10 different events. The inauguration ceremony at the upazilla auditorium was chaired by District Administrator Mo. Anowar Sadat. Special guests included Khagrachhari Hill District Council Chief Executive Mo. Ilyas Mehdi, Police Superintendent Mo. Motojah Ali Khan, Additional District Administrator (General) Hasan Maruf, Upazilla Administrator Saadia Afrin Kachi, BNP district council member and General Secretary M.N. Abchas, and other officials. Assistant Commissioner (Land) Tasnuwara Islam, Upazilla Nirbahi Officer Parveen Aktar Khan, Joint Secretary of the District Sports Committee Mo. Nazrul Islam, and District Sports Officer Harun Al Rashid were also present.

Speakers at the event stated that the 'New Ku'uri Sports' initiative will help develop the latent talent of children in remote regions, encourage their regular participation in sports, and foster a competitive spirit. They also noted that this effort could pave the way for these young athletes to represent the country at the national level in the future. The speakers highlighted the Trinamool perspective in nurturing sports talent from the grassroots level.
